Arm Slings
Arm slings are used to support a limb that has been damaged in some way and needs to remain elevated and immobile. The most common injury that is cause for needing an arm sling is an injury to the humerus. If an arm sling is needed before medical treatment is administered at a hospital, there are at least two ways of how to make a temporary arm sling.
You can make an Arm Sling by cutting a piece of cloth, like a pillowcase, into about a 40-inch square. Then cut or fold the square diagonally to make a triangle. Slip one end of the bandage under the arm and over the shoulder. Then bring the other end of the bandage over the other shoulder to cradle the arm. Tie the ends of the bandage behind the neck. Fasten the edge of the bandage by the elbow with a safety pin. If a piece of cloth is not available then you can make a Collar and Cuff Sling by wrapping a strip of sheet, a pants leg, or pantyhose, or even a belt, around the wrist and then tying the ends behind the neck. Once the injured person recieves medical treatment the hospital usually issues an arm sling to the patient.
Arm slings used to come only in the ugly, universally functional, practical variety. But now, if an arm sling is needed, especially on a long-term basis, then the market now has expanded to making more fashionable and fun arm slings available. A business called Broken Beauties is one of many businesses speciallizing in medical supplies made stylish with fashionable arm slings. They speciallize in making having a broken bone or any other injury that requires a cast a bit more tolerable by making slings and other accessories that look and feel great. Now you can get an arm sling that is colorful and pretty to look at. Arm slings come in many patterns and color styles. You can even buy a pattern for making a simple arm sling and sew your own out of any color or type of sturdy material you choose. The possibilities are endless.
