First Aid Kits

First aid kits in come in a myriad of shapes and sizes for nearly every conceivable emergency situation whether the patient needing emergency treatment is two legged or four legged.

If you and your friends decide to go on a camping or hiking trip through some wilderness areas it is ALWAYS a very good idea to take a first aid kit. Most places that deal in first aid kits offer the fanny pack style first aid kits for easy carrying, and snakebite kits are available to carry in a first aid kit as well. A basic checklist for a good, basic fanny pack first aid kit will run something like this: Fanny Pack, Eye Wash, Instant Ice Packs, 3” ACE Bandage, Bandage Scissors, First Aid Guide, CPR Mouthpiece, Iodine Prep Pads, Pair Latex Gloves, Water Gels, 2”x2” Gauze Pads, 4”x4” Gauze Pads, Tissue Pack, Alcohol Prep Pads, 1”x10 yds Adhesive Tape, Bio-Hazard Waste Bag, Box 3/4”x3” Bandages, Tweezers, Purell Hand Sanitizer, Eye Pads, Wet Naps, Hydrogen Peroxide, 5”x9” Combine Dressing, and basic bandages. The snake bite kits can be purchased sepreately, or they are part of the bigger kits designed for military, or large group, usage. The First Responder first aid kits seem to be one of the best types and brands one can buy as they are as complete a kit as possible.

Your pet may also need first aid from time to time, so it is a good idea to invest in a first aid specially designed for, let’s say, your dog. Most of these kits come with a lot of the same things that a first aid kit for humans has, but with a few essential differences. Here’s an example of the kind of kit you would have for your hunting dog who may get hurt out in the field while out hunting grouse, quail, or whatever game you are hunting that requires your faithful friend. A pet first aid kit may include: 4"x 4 yd. stretch gauze, 5" x 9" trauma pads, 3" x 3" sterile pads, 2" x 2" sterile pads, a 4" x 5 yd. Vet Wrap, Eye & Skin wash, a pair of scissors, some cotton swabs, powder Stypic, insect sting wipes, some Hydrocortisone Cream, and some triple antibiotic ointment. A pet first aid kit may also include green soap towlettes, antiseptic wipes, 1" x 2 1/2 yd. of adhesive tape, PVP iodine, handwipes, plastic forceps, latex gloves, and a pet first aid booklet.

You can also purchase red cross first aid kits and sports first aid kits online.
